Handpainted Silks are luxurious and yet practical, completely hand washable and whilst they do respond well to gentle handling and some extra care to maintain their vibrancy or delicacy, they are well worth the extra time and attention.

SILK INFORMATION

All items are painted on high quality silk. Of the many different types of silk available, at Silk Streams we use the following:

Pongee: a light, shimmering silk, perfect for scarves, either long or square.

Habutai: a more durable silk for ‘frequent or heavy duty use’ items such as cloths & pillowcases.

Crepe backed Silk Satin: as the name suggests, the satin side has the beautiful sheen and lustre of satin, whilst the back is a soft matte crepe. This fabric hangs and drapes beautifully as it catches the light which creates a shimmering effect. At Silk Streams we use a lighter weight for scarves, and a heavier weight for pillowcases and cloths.

Crinkle cut Georgette: this creates quite a different effect. It is very light and diaphanous, with no shimmer or sheen. Beautiful in scarves to accessorise your favourite outfit. For casual wear or the most glamorous function
